I think this often as I watch my son play soccer and since he was about 6 years old he had a desire to be a keeper. He was always drawn to that position for whatever reason. And today as he begins his journey into High School soccer (I can't even believe he is already in high school!) with his first contact day with the coaches I am excited, anxious and so proud of him. The thing is with a keeper there are not a lot of training opportunities. Whereas with every other position every practice revolves around practicing the foot skills. Jack's training comes from his games, scrimmages and attending Camp Shutout every summer. It is a camp that is only for goalkeepers. They spend almost a week in a hotel and on soccer fields working their keeper skills. It is a rigorous schedule that starts at 7am and goes late into the night. Now it is not all tough work they have fun times and even are able to get massages. What you don't realize is keepers bodies take a real beating. Whether it be by getting kicked as someone tries to snag the ball or diving for the balls. But this is the life our son has chosen and we support him 100% and then some. We are excited to see where this adventure leads into high school.
